Organizational Development (OD) is an effort planned, organization-wide, and ideally managed from the top to increase organizational effectiveness and health through planned interventions in the organization’s processes using behavioural science knowledge.
OD focuses on achieving behaviour change through specific interventions. The depth of the intervention will vary according to the degree of change required. Each ‘problem’ in an organization needs to be analysed carefully before a particular initiative or initiatives are implemented and there is no one solution to solve all the problems encountered within organizations that relates to changing human behaviour.
The following diagram shows how method of change is related the target of behaviour change and the degree of cognitive and attitudinal mix associated with those change processes.
